Yesterday Zombie had a convoy run south of JBB. Most of our missions are to the east, so this was a change of pace for us. Also, we had an extra early SP (start point) time to begin the whole thing. What that means is that it was daylight for the whole 2 hour trip there and that means............PICTURE TIME!! I probably shot 40 pics of whatever I could see........which isn't a whole lot over here. But it was still nice to be able to see the country a little bit (remember, 95% of our missions are at night so there is no sight-seeing at all).
And since we were closer to Baghdad there were more people about, towns to go through, and traffic to run off the road. Just kidding. We practice American Forces Share The Road doctrine here. Basically Zombie interprets that to mean since we have the biggest, most heavily-armed vehicles on the road then we will take what little concrete or asphalt there is and everyone else can drive on the shoulder of just pull off the road. Thank you....have a nice day. We term it the 70/30 share plan. We get the biggest piece since we are the technologically advanced SuperPower and they are not. It works.
Everything was fine until we were sucked into a rift in the space-time continueum. It was spooky. The time on our watches was moving forward, but the time for the KBR manager in charge of loading the trucks so we could head back to JBB was moving backward. Here is what happened:
* (2030 or 8:30 pm here) KBR guy: "finishing up.....ready to roll in 30 minutes."
* (2050 or 8:50pm) KBR guy: "finishing up here.....need another 45 minutes."
huh? isn't that more time than the last estimate?
* (2100 or 9:00pm) KBR guy: " yeah....looks like about 2 more hours."
what??! that can't be right. hey, somebody check to see if we just went through a worm-hole?
So, as soon as I can figure out how to transfer pics from my camera to my computer I can work on posting some here or on FB or send in email. That should keep me busy for a few days.
