General Observations

* a chem-lite stick broken open and poured on a football will make said football visible for toss and catch at 2am while waiting for KBR to finish loading the trucks for the return run to JBB.

* it also provides for some quality viewing when privates are applying it to parts of themselves and running around in the dark

* some people really should start with the low dive before they try the high dive at the pool.  I saw a guy hit today and thought he's dead. He hit perfectly on his back and the sound was like a shot.

* speaking of that I also saw a guy walking around and thought he really needs to rub in that sunscreen better and then I realized that bright white was really his skin color.  Ouch...do they make an SPF150?

* during indirect attacks (mortars and rockets) they stop everyone who is finished eating and trying to exit  the chow hall bc it has a reinforced roof and it is a safe area........but they also close the entrance so the people trying to enter stand outside with little to no protection.  What's that about?

* I went to see Robin Hood last night at the base theater.  The movie was pretty good, but before it started they played the National Anthem and 200 or so soldiers and airmen stood at attention.  It was a cool feeling.  Maybe that needs to happen in the states as a reminder of freedom's cost.

* once the temp passes 95 or so the wind is no longer helpful bc it is a dry hot wind.  You can see what this is like for yourself.  Dress in pants and long sleeve shirt, go outside about noon with a hairdryer and turn it on low hot and hold it 2 feet in front of your face. Welcome to Iraq.

* I am suspicious of the origin of the "beef kabobs" served about 3 times a week.

* an idea I am thinking about for my students in the future:  in our large gravel motor pool there is an 8 foot square taped off.  All the rocks (about the size of hockey pucks and almost as flat) within that square have been spray painted red.  When a soldier needs to be reminded how inportant it is to keep up with his sensitive items or to be on time he is taken to the square and told to make the red rocks disappear.  He has to turn all the rocks over so the red does not show.   Nice.......and time consuming.   That will probably help my kids think twice about talking in class again.   :)

* after I get home I may never eat chicken and rice with salsa again.  Just sayin

* I heard on the radio at the pool today (oh yeahhh) that the temp was 98 degrees.....at 10am.  This side of the world is definately much closer to the sun.
